Thursday May 24 was a picture perfect day for Walcha’s President’s day with warm sunshine that made the bowlers want to stay out there all day. There were sixteen teams representing Guyra, Kootingal, Bendemeer, Uralla, Armidale and Armidale Ex-Service’s clubs who were all warmly welcomed by President Phyllis Ahoy. There was an apology received from Armidale President, Judy Carey.  After a delicious morning tea a scattering of spiders on the green preceded the one game of triples with 18 ends.  A tasty individual basket lunch containing sandwiches, fruit and cheese with a sponge cake for dessert was enjoyed by all.  Winners for the day drawn from the cards were Kootingal first, skipped by Gwen Davidson and Uralla were the runners-up, L Dwyer, A Fulton and J Bray.  The lucky door prize, a lovely bottle of red wine was won by Guyra’s Laurel Betts and three new Walcha members, Jan Cross, Esta Hunt and Lyn Burrell received their club badges.   NEDWBA President L Fuller summed up the day thanking everyone for attending and making Walcha’s day memorable.

Many Pennant teams played over the weekend at different locations and commiserations to Armidale City going down by only four shots to Lightning Ridge even though they won on two rinks. However, congratulations to the Ex-Service’s pennant teams who had a win at Gunnedah  and will go on to the State play-offs.  Let’s hope the Service’s pennant ladies can make it a double at Moree through the week.
