Wednesday May 17 was just a perfect day and the Walcha Women’s Bowling Club set the scene to celebrate their 60th birthday celebrations with 16 teams attending, representing clubs from Kootingal, Guyra, Uralla, Bendimeer,  Armidale and Armidale Ex-Service’s. Walcha’s President, Phyllis Hoy warmly welcomed the bowlers to a delicious morning tea before one game of triples with 16 ends. After the game the bowlers retired to the club house and were transpired to a beautifully decorated dining room with green, gold and silver ribbons hanging from the ceiling, lovely white tablecloths with informative place mats and pink fresh flowers as a centre piece.  Each place was set with a gift and a marked pen as a momento of this special occasion.  On the stage was a stand depicting bowls attire from yester-year and also a large paper mache club badge with the number 60 inscribed on it.  The amazing hot lunch served complete with dessert was enjoyed by everyone.  President Phyllis then introduced the Guest of Honour, Topsy Roberts from NSWWB who presented Merit badges to Margaret Tickle, Tiana Hall, Margaret Morris and Phyllis Hoy for their worthy contributions to the club.  A beautifully iced birthday cake took pride of place on a table and was cut by Patron Connie Bird and distributed to everyone.  A table of Walcha’s Veteran bowlers included, Jean Cross, Joyce Henry, Coral Goodwin, Connie Bird and Hazel Cameron.  Winners of the bowls were Lyn Dwyer, Phyllis Dade and Judy Bray from Uralla with a team from Kootingal the runners-up.
